about me
Hey there, I am Frederic Tomajian, currently pursuing a bachelor's of mechanical engineering at McGill University. During my degree, I developed an interest in software development, especially after my first internship at Airbus. Striving to expand this interest and the set of skills that comes with it, I decided to pursue a minor in Applied artificial intelligence. I am very eager and motivated to learn, always pursuing opportunities to improve my skills and knowledge regarding any topic i am passionate about.
Skills
bachelor of mechanical engineering - McGill University
Cumulative GPA: 3.73/4.0
Minor of Applied Artificial Intelligence - McGill University
Simultaneous with a mechanical bachelor's degree
Hichschool diploma - College des apotres
Focus on General Sciences
Senior year engineering project Pratt & Whitney Canada, Longueil
• Initiated and secured an independent engineering project in collaboration with Pratt & Whitney Canada during my senior year at McGill University.
• Led a cross-functional team to optimize the lathe process for aircraft engine disks, addressing critical manufacturing challenges in the aviation industry.
• Enhancing safety and efficiency by preventing disk detachment and material deformation during the highstress lathe process, resulting in improved quality of engine components..
• Presenting continuous project updates and recommendations to the client (Pratt and Whitney), showcasing effective communication and leadership skills.
Buisness Analyst Intern - Product Lifecycle Managment Pratt & Whitney Canada, St-Hubert
• Performed Enovia EV6 software testing, collaborating with Dassault Systemes engineers for bug testing and review meetings to customize tool implementation managed using JIRA software.
• Documented and interpreted complex technical changes for a global PLM software upgrade, catering to a user base of 8000+ globally.
• Developed and presented comprehensive training materials, facilitating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and ensuring seamless software transition from the Enovia version 2014X to 2020X.
• Created user-friendly self-help web applications using Markdown, offering accessible online documentation and enhancing user proficiency.
Thermodynamics engineering internship - Airbus Canada, Mirabel
• Developed tools that perform thermodynamics and heat transfer analysis on Airbus aircraft
• Full front-end development of new engineering tools using Shiny RStudio with CSS implementation.
• Optimized the performance of the Graphical interface to perform rapid analysis on a vast data set.
• Perform tests and simulations to ensure code validation against standard test cases.
• Review and study engineering reports and documents associated with aircraft decompression
Member of McGill Robotics - McGill University
• Contributed all year long with the mechanical team on the underwater autonomous vehicle by introducing new ideas for the hardware, perform pool tests and acquire necessary data for upgrading purposes
• Perform continuous maintenance on the machine, prepare for testing and check safety protocols
• Designed parts using SOLIDWORKS and Inventor program and assisted the software team on code
• Cooperate with both the software and electrical teams in preparation for the ROBOSUB competition.
Youth Group Leader - Saint Maroun church
• Organized weekly group activities for around 150 kids in the age range of 5-14 years old.
• Led and organized week-long summer camps each year that includes all kind of athletic, educational, and original activities.
• Managed all first-year assistants by providing orientation and training throughout the year.
• Assisted in the heavy logistics preparations and lodgment accommodation required for the summer camps.
recent work
Aircraft Gearbox Design
The project involves the preliminary design of a reduction gearbox for a geodesic observation plane powered by a PT6A-42 gas turbine. The goal is to bridge the engine's output speed of 14,500 rpm to the propeller's rotation speed of 1,100 rpm, ensuring safety, performance optimization, and adherence to aviation standards.

eVTOL Performance Study
Electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles is a topic that interests me greatly. For the fluid mechanics' final group project, we were tasked with designing an eVTOL which meets specific operation requirements, including range, cruise speed, cruise altitude, weight limit, and structure. Using the resultant design and specification, we will also be performing power calculations of this eVTOL air taxi in hover, climb, descent, and forward flight.

AUV Robotics Project
McGill Robotics has developed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle to compete in the annual RoboSub competition. My responsibilities as part of the mechanical team were designing and upgrading various key components leading to an improvement in performance while still adhering closely to the competition regulations. In order to ensure the machine's stability, maintenance and pool tests were regularly performed.

Personal Portfolio
My first internship at Airbus provided me with the opportunity to learn a lot about front-end development, which sparked my interest. My goal was to strengthen and improve this skill by building a personal portfolio from scratch. In such a way, I was able to demonstrate my front-end development knowledge in addition to displaying other projects I worked on, thus demonstrating my skills in a way that a traditional resume might not be able to.
